One Hour

I am giving myself one hour to write this blog post, then my internet access will self-destruct and I’ll have to get back to revisions.

(I may have made that part up about things exploding, but I do need to get on with revising Hunting the Dark.)

So let’s see… what have I been up to? I’ve been busy, that’s for sure. Now that things are settling down on the personal front, I’m back into revising the second Moth book and should be finished by the end of the month. Yay! I have also been playing around with ideas for an adult book (a paranormal mystery), something a bit different but definitely fun to think about. I’ve only made some longhand notes when I’m not able to be at my computer working on Moth, but it’s nice to know that I have a project I can get my teeth into (no pun intended) over the remainder of the summer.

Talking of summer… wow, total heatwave here in the UK! London is ridiculously humid and sticky, but that didn’t stop the boyfriend and I from going to Amanda Palmer’s AWESOME gig at the Roundhouse (in Camden) last Friday night.

This was, honestly, one of the best gigs I’ve ever been to. I knew it would be good, but I didn’t realise quite how good Amanda and her Grand Theft Orchestra would be. Just incredible entertainment – the entire set was engaging from beginning to end, whether they were rocking out or whether it was just AFP herself standing front and centre with her ukelele.

Then there was that song which has since gone viral (NSFW, I suppose I should say, adult language etc. etc.) which brought the house down and made us all fall just a little more in love with the big-hearted and supremely smart Ms. Palmer.

What else… *glances at time* Oh! I wrote a blog post for the Deadline Dames a while back that seemed to resonate with a lot of readers (both on the site and on Twitter), but I forgot to link to it from here. It’s about Imposter Syndrome and how we all feel that way more than we’d like to admit – and how I feel it a lot around my writing. Especially lately.

Also, I finally have some news on that comic I mentioned a long, long time ago. We are now pushing forward with my issue of Jennifer Wilde (called ‘The Wilde Hunt’), and we should see it printed very soon. I am so happy to be a part of this project, and have recently reviewed the proofs. Stephen Downey‘s art is just gorgeous! Remember what it’s about? Put very simply, a 1920s French artist joins forces with the ghost of Oscar Wilde to fight injustice and solve mysteries in Ireland. I was pretty much able to write my own 24-page story based on the characters and premise, and Rob Curley, the creator and publisher, gave me total freedom to do whatever I wanted. Which was awesome of him. :)

Can’t wait for you all to read it! It’s a standalone issue, so you won’t need to know much about the story beforehand – hopefully it’ll be available within the next few months. I’ll keep you updated…

Here’s the very beginning of Stephen’s work on the cover – he tweeted this picture a while back:

And here’s a page in-progress, without the dialogue and finishing touches:

Seeing the script I wrote come alive like this is pretty amazing.

That’s all for now. Unless something else comes up, I’ll be back here next week…
